In early 2005, the co-owners of Carmella's Italian Ice Company – Nick Dimario and Sean Sullivan, started talking about bringing a frozen dessert called Italian Ice or "water-ice" to the great State of Alabama and by the end of that year, Carmella's was born.

Carmella's is named after Carmella Dimario, Nick's grandmother and in designing the logo, we used a picture of Sean's great grandmother, Valeda Lemieux. Nick and Sean both agreed that Carmella's would always stand for "old-time" values of quality, freshness and authenticity.

Nick grew up with Italian Ice, living in Philly (his Dad, Fran, used to sell water-ice and called it Disco Ice Ha!). Sean grew up in Florida where Italian Ice was a popular item with the "snow-bird" population. In Alabama, Italian Ice was a relatively unknown delicacy. We spent almost a year perfecting an Italian Ice recipe that is not only authentic, but is considered better quality than what you can get up north – just ask the numerous Philadelphians, Chicagoans and New Yorkers who have had our ice. We succeeded in producing a product that is absolutely the BEST Italian Ice you will ever taste! We utilize real fruit puree and other high quality ingredients to make a rich, creamy, smooth textured product that people often mistake for ice cream but there are NO dairy products in our ice. Our ice is fat-free, cholesterol-free and dairy-free: NOTHING BUT GREAT TASTE IN OUR ICE!

Carmella's Italian Ice Company is a full-service Italian Ice business, from local events and school fundraisers, to retail bulk sales, to wholesale resale of Italian Ice or raw syrup products – Carmella's can take care of it all.

Our syrup product is unique in that unlike other much larger companies that require you to buy and combine flavor, sweetener and stabilizer to make their Italian Ice, Carmella's product is all-inclusive. Literally, all you need is a batch freezer and water and you can make Carmella's Italian Ice! If you desire to purchase our finished product, "We Scoopa 4 U!" Carmella's Italian Ice is proud to be located in Helena, Alabama and proud to be the only active producer of its own Italian Ice in Alabama.
